Donor Privacy Notice

Shree Jagannatha Society UK · Registered Charity No. 1191544 · Version 1.0 · 27 October 2026

This notice explains how Shree Jagannatha Society UK (“SJSUK”, “we”) uses your personal information when you donate to, or volunteer for, the Land Acquisition Appeal.

Who we are

Shree Jagannatha Society UK is a charity registered in England and Wales (No. 1191544) and is the controller of your personal information for this appeal. Contact us about your data at Contact@shreejagannatha.uk.

What we collect

  • Every donation: full name, email address, mobile number, your home address if you give it (it is needed for Gift Aid), the amount, how you paid, and the date.
  • If you add Gift Aid: your legal first name and surname, your Gift Aid declaration (the exact wording you agreed to and when), and your confirmations that you are a UK taxpayer giving your own money.
  • If you choose to be recognised: the name or dedication you ask us to display, and your consent.
  • If you agree to hear from us: your email marketing preference, with the wording you agreed to and when.
  • Payment details: PayPal handles card and account details. We never see or store them. For bank transfers we receive the sender name, amount, date and reference from our bank statement.
  • Volunteers: name, email address, volunteer code and personal target.

Because this is an appeal for a place of worship, the fact that you donated may indicate your religious beliefs. We treat all donor information as sensitive and handle it with extra care.

Why we use it, and our lawful basis

  • To process your donation, send your receipt and keep financial records: necessary to act on your request (contract) and to meet our legal obligations as a charity.
  • To claim Gift Aid from HMRC and keep the records HMRC requires: legal obligation.
  • To confirm, query or correct your donation or Gift Aid declaration (which is why we ask for your mobile number and, if you give it, your home address): our legitimate interests in running the appeal accurately.
  • To display your name or dedication in the Temple Legacy Register: your explicit consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • To send you appeal news and SJSUK updates by email: only if you opt in; you can unsubscribe at any time.
  • Where information may reveal religious belief, we rely on the condition for not-for-profit bodies with a religious aim processing information about people in regular contact with them, and on your explicit consent for anything we publish.

Who we share it with

  • PayPal: to take online payments.
  • Microsoft Azure (UK data centres), hosts our website and donation records.
  • Our email delivery provider (Resend or Brevo), sends receipts and sign-in codes.
  • HMRC: receives Gift Aid claim details.
  • Our bank, auditors or independent examiner, and professional advisers, where needed.

We never sell or swap your information. If a volunteer shared a donation link with you, they can see the total raised through their link, the donation step and date, and your displayed name only if you chose public recognition, never your contact details, address, payment details or Gift Aid status. Some of our providers may process data outside the UK; where they do, they use legally approved safeguards.

What we publish

Nothing, unless you ask us to. If you choose recognition, we publish only the name or dedication you gave, after review, never your contact details or the amount you gave. The campaign total is shown as a single figure.

How long we keep it

  • Donation and Gift Aid records: 6 years after the end of the financial year they relate to (HMRC and charity accounting rules).
  • Email marketing preference: until you unsubscribe, then a suppression record so we don’t contact you again.
  • Legacy Register entries: for as long as the register is kept, unless you withdraw consent.

After these periods we delete or anonymise personal details. Financial amounts are kept for our accounts without personal details.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete your information, to restrict or object to how we use it, to move it, and to withdraw any consent. Some records we must keep by law (for example Gift Aid). Contact Contact@shreejagannatha.uk. We will reply within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, 0303 123 1113.

Security

Donation records are stored in encrypted cloud storage. Access is limited to named SJSUK officers by role, protected by one-time sign-in codes, and every change is logged. Payments are handled by PayPal or your bank, we never handle card numbers.
