Lord Jagannath consecrated in London

In a historic milestone for the Hindu community in the United Kingdom, the Shree Jagannatha Society has completed the consecration of the sacred vigrahas (embodiment) of sibling deities Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra, and the Sudarshan Chakra following authentic Puri temple rituals — for the first time in London.
A First for Europe
This consecration marks significant progress toward an ambitious construction project. The organisation plans to establish the first standalone temple dedicated to Lord Jagannath in Britain, which will also be the first of its kind in Europe.
The deities were consecrated with full traditional Odia rituals, following the customs and practices observed at the Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha. Priests with expertise in the ancient rituals were specially invited to perform the sacred ceremonies.
The Temple Project
The initial phase of the temple project involves acquiring 10–30 acres of land near London's outskirts, constructing the inner sanctum, and installing the sacred idols. The society is actively fundraising and seeking suitable property to realise this vision of bringing a major Hindu temple to Europe.
The deities of Lord Jagannatha, Balabhadra, and Subhadra are currently housed and worshipped at Shree Ram Mandir, 22 King Street, Southall UB2 4DA, where devotees visit regularly for darshan and prayers.

"The temple in the UK will be an extension of Shri Jagannatha Mahaprabhu's divine presence. It is envisioned to strengthen the spiritual and cultural identity of Odias and devotees worldwide, becoming a symbol of unity, devotion, and global harmony."
